In India, is conducted by IDP and charges 16,250 INR per attempt. The date booking can be done through the online IDP portal. After completion of the booking process all the communications are done through mail, the students will receive a mail regarding the center and timing for their Listening, Reading, and writing which are all taken together in a span of 3 hours, on the other hand, the speaking module is scheduled differently which take about 11 – 15 minutes. The results of the same are given after 13 calendar days from the test date.

The IELTS listening test consists of four sections which can be a monologue or a dialogue conversation between two people. The first recording is a discussion between two people whereas the second recording can either be a speech or a monologue. The third recording is a chat between a group of people and the fourth recording can be a monologue/ lecture/ speech on an academic subject. The recordings can be heard only once and the students will be provided with 10 minutes at the end for transferring the answers. 40 questions need to be answered in 40 minutes.


The IELTS reading test consists of three sections with 40 questions to be answered in 60 minutes. Designed to test a wide range of reading skills and understanding capabilities of a candidate. The candidate has to go through 3 long texts taken from academic journals, books, magazines, and newspapers and answer the questions.


The IELTS writing tasks consist of academic writing wherein the candidates have to write two short essays, the first essay comprises 150 words where a candidate has to explain the information in their own words from the information gathered from the given diagram, data, or table presented to them, whereas in the second section includes writing a 250 words essay in response to a view, issue, argument or a problem which is given. The total time given to complete the task is 60 minutes.


The IELTS speaking test is based on a candidate’s fluency in a language, where they test their speaking skills, spoken English, and language proficiency while speaking. The speaking skill test consists of 3 parts – personal interview, topic-based speech where the candidate is given a minute to prepare before speaking, and discussion over the topic. The test takes around 11 – 14 minutes and the entire session is recorded for evaluation purposes.
